Central Florida Man Charged With Hate Crime After Bar Fight

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – 44-year-old Jason Cuellar faces hate crime charges after a bar fight during which he threw a bottle on another man which hit his head.

Jail records showed that the Central Florida man remains in Volusia County Jail following the incident that happened Friday night.

24-year-old Kenneth Hodge was standing at the Hideout Lounge when Cuellar, who is white, told him “this bar is not for blacks”, according to deputies.

Hodge ignored the comment and that’s when Cuellar grabbed a beer bottle and hit Hodge on top of the head. As a result, Hodge sustained a severe cut on his head, reported by the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Hodge wrestled Cuellar to the ground but he ran away. Several bar patrons attempted to stop him but Cuellar sprayed them with pepper spray.

After a short time, he was taken into custody. It is not yet known whether he has a lawyer or not.
