2 Inmates Escape From Transport Van Heading To Tallahassee

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. – According to Florida authorities, a search is on going to find two inmates who escaped from a transport van which was headed to Tallahassee.

A private company that was transporting the prisoners notified the Walton County Sheriff’s office about the incident that happened early Monday. The inmates were identified as 31-year-old James Thomas Banks and 30-year-old Michael Andrew Rotunno.

Their record shows that Banks was facing charges for unarmed robbery and escaping from jail, whereas Rotunno was charged with delivering and manufacturing narcotics and larceny in a building.

The van had stopped at the Walton County Jail in the Florida Panhandle when the inmates escaped. They were on their way to a facility in Jackson, Minnesota. Banks was on his way from Orange County, California, whereas Rutonno was being transported from Longview, Texas.

Local school districts have been notified of the escape. Local authorities and Sheriff’s officials are carrying out the search.
